VLADIVOSTOK, Russia, June 9 (UPI) -- Allegations that elderly residents were abused and defrauded at a senior citizens' facility in Russia are under investigation, prosecutors said Thursday.
A previous director of the Sedankino Asylum near Vladivostok in the Russian Far East is serving a seven-year prison term for fraud and abuse of office. The latest charges spring from a video posted on the Internet by five people who said they had escaped from the facility, ITAR-Tass reported.
Yelena Telagina, an aide to the prosecutor in Primorsky Territory, said the charges are being evaluated.
In the video, the five said they were abused by social workers and forced to work 12 hours a day for 250 to 500 rubles ($9 to $18) a month. Staff at the home used their papers to carry out illegal real estate deals, they charged.
