According to a review in the Financial Times over the past 10 years, the number of skiers and snowboarders (namely, tourists on the slopes) coming to the Alps has decreased by 14%: 150 million in the 2016-17 season compared to 175 million in 2008. And although the snowfalls of last year attracted a large number of holidaymakers in winter, the general trend is observed. This phenomenon can be explained by two main reasons.
Ski holidays are becoming more and more expensive. Of course, it could never be called a cheap hobby, but the competition for customers between different areas in the tourism business is becoming increasingly fierce. The younger generation prefers other types of recreation. Even ski schools organize less and less activities amid a decrease in the number of people who want to study.
The second reason is global warming, no matter how denied it is at different levels.
